💙 The bump is out of the jeans 👖 This time 💙 The bump is out of the jeans 👖

This time around, we’re taking things slow

Creating space in all of our lives for this new person to arrive

Shapeshifting, yet again

Mother 🏹 Mother of Two

“If a new mum isn’t given the space or support “If a new mum isn’t given the space or support to recover from pregnancy and birth, the ripple affect can last years. Even a lifetime.”

What does it mean by giving some space?

It doesn’t always refer to physical space, holding off on unnecessary communication or only coming for short visits.

It’s a means being present enough and quiet enough to let the mother integrate her experience, emotions, thoughts and fears. To not have to fill the gaps of silence with unnecessary movement or words. To actively listen without trying to fix or put a different spin on it.

Support is huge! And support looks so different to everyone. Often new and first time Mothers don’t really know what they need so offering them guidance and a few options can be a great place to start.

The dialogue is slowly changing, but it’s not just the parents that need the education, it’s the village too!

Until the end of their days, mothers remember thei Until the end of their days, mothers remember their births.

They remember them in their minds eye, in their emotional and physical bodies.

They remember sounds, smells, lights, voices, thoughts, the experience.

Who was there for them and who wasn’t. How they were treated, how they were touched.

Birth is one of the biggest transformations a human being can experience in a life time.

How we birth affects how we start our new lives as Mothers and the effects of that can shape who we become in the future.

So what happens when it’s not perfect?
When it doesn’t go to plan?
When you experience trauma?
When you are left completely depleted?
When you experience grief?

Postpartum planning is more than just planning for an ideal recovery filled with nourishing food, healing rituals and rest. It’s also about putting together a strong support network to help you if things start to slide.

In more cases than not, you don’t realize what you need until you need it in that moment. And you don’t know what you don’t know.

I’d love to hear what you wish you’d known going into birth and what you might have done differently 🤍

Do you know why it’s important to eat particular Do you know why it’s important to eat particular foods after birth and during early postpartum?

I’m sure you’ve seen so many images on Instagram (or at least I have!) of women eating burgers, fast food or big bowls of pasta in hospital.

Don’t get me wrong, if this is a craving, then go for it. BUT you do have to think about how hard that’s going to be to digest… and for it to come out the other end.

We all know that first trip to the bathroom after birth can feel like birth all over again.

And not to mention, if you did need medical assistance and pain medication, that alone can add an extra layer of possible constipation.

Birthing Mama’s I know you’re nodding while you’re reading this.

Dietician @natalieshealthykitchen and I wanted to make sure that our recipes were easy to cook so that partners and family members could whip them together without wondering what all the ingredients are. That they were packed with nutrition, covered all the key elements for healing and digestion and so that they could be tweaked and personalized if you wanted to add protein or are vegan.

Warm, soft, easy to chew foods are the key to recovery along with many more factors.

Hello 👋🏻 I thought it was time to re-introdu Hello 👋🏻 I thought it was time to re-introduce myself here as there’s lots of new connections and faces.

I’m Jessica, Mama to Luna, Postpartum Doula physically here in Adelaide and beyond online.

Here are some things you might (or might not) find interesting about me;

🌎 I lived overseas for 10 years before coming back to Adelaide. London - Berlin - Cascais (Portugal)

💃🏻 My German husband and I met randomly in a bar in Barcelona 10 years ago.

🇩🇪 Luna was born in Berlin, an original Berliner.

✂️ 💄 My career before entering the doula world was as a hairstylist and makeup artist @jesskaras

✈️ I’ve traveled to 30 countries before I was 30 and can’t wait to have more adventures with my family when the world opens up again.

✨Motherhood cracked me wide open and allowed me to view life and the world around me through a completely new lens.

🤍 I have a deep love for ancient healing wisdom and rituals.

🪬Learning the ways of a Doula is a way of being for me, something that’s intertwined into everything I do.

🙌🏼 Supporting women and families during one of the biggest transitions a human being can make is an honor and brings me great joy.

🥣 I collaborated with Dietician @natalieshealthykitchen when I was living in Portugal to create our ebook The Postpartum Pantry. A collection of easy recipes designed to nourish, heal and soothe. (Link is in my bio 😉)

It would be an honor to be apart of your village (both on and offline) and to be there with you as you slowly bloom.

After all, we all share the same name.

Our name is Mama.
